The Government has confirmed changes to the structure of local government across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. From April 2028, all services will be delivered by two new unitary councils:
A new council for Leicester, Oadby & Wigston, and parts of Blaby, Charnwood and Harborough
A new council for the remaining areas of Leicestershire and Rutland
For Charnwood, this means:
Most of the borough will join the new North Leicestershire & Rutland unitary council
Some southern areas will become part of the new Leicester/Oadby & Wigston/Blaby/Harborough council

All current councils will continue to operate as normal during the transition period.
